By Natalie Fazio SAN ANTONIO— Our Lady of the Lake men’s basketball guard Darion Brown joins the 1000-point club in a 92-89 win over the weekend against the LSU-Shreveport Pilots.  Brown played for a total of 29 minutes with nine attempts scoring for 12 points on Friday night. When asked if he knew he had a chance of getting into the club that night Brown said, “My mom had called me before and told me, as well as my coach but I tried to stay focused on just playing and getting the win instead of trying to score however many points I needed.” Head coach Ryan Wall, who came into the program the same year as Brown, also received his 100th win. “It was really cool for us both to achieve those accomplishments the same weekend because he is the one who gave me a chance in this game and if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be in the club now,” Brown said. The Saints were behind the entire first half of the game but quickly turned the score around after the second. Seniors Darion Brown and PJ Escobar got off three-pointers in the first couple minutes of the second which tied the game at 57. With a five-point lead and 38 seconds on the clock, the Saints were able to overcome the score with free throws as the clock ran out.  “The crowd got a lot of key players unfocused and off their game during the game which was a big help,” Brown said. The Saints head into conference number one with a record of 8-1 and 14-6 overall. Being put into such a praised category of players, Brown was able to stay humble throughout the game. “Each game is really important to me because every opportunity you get to step onto the court is a blessing in itself, so I just stay humble and true to the player I am. Records are not really important to me but I am thankful to be a part of something not many can say they are. Like I said I am just truly blessed,” Brown said. The Saints will the month of January with two home games against University of St. Thomas-Houston and Texas College.
