The central plot of the movie focuses around Glass’ character — After being brutally mauled by a bear, Glass seeks vengeance against those who left him for dead. Although some may assume how it ends, there are many more elements to be appreciated in regards to this film in its entirety. The story gives the audience a glimpse of what life was like in early America. Tension between Native Americans and the Anglo-Americans, survival of the fittest and familial love are some of the many themes represented throughout the film. The cinematography captures scenes in a realistic fashion with the use of natural light and panoramic point-of-view shots.
