District Attorney Joe Gonzales pledged to protect women and other vulnerable members of the community in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade. Gonzales said he will champion rights for everyone, singling out women and the LGBTQ+ community. He said the latter group could have their right to marry stripped, saying that the reasoning justices applied in rescinding a woman’s right to have an abortion could be applied in other cases. Taking advantage of a draft bounty affording them three first-round picks for the first time in franchise history, the San Antonio Spurs on l nabbed a trio of 19-year-old freshman to bolster the team's young core: 6'10" Jeremy Sochan, 6'5" Malaki Branham and 6'5" Blake Wesley.  The death toll climbs to 50 in San Antonio human smuggling tragedy. Aside from the 46 people found dead, four more people who were discovered still alive in the rig have since died, bringing the death toll to 50. The dead include 22 immigrants from Mexico, seven from Guatemala and two from Honduras. The rest are still being identified. Emergency personnel transported 16 people to area hospitals for treatment. At least five of the patients were in critical condition. Jared Montoya, PhD, Professor of Leadership Studies, and former student David Hill (MS 2013, PhD 2019) have created an app to help businesses – “WeGood?” – which is available in the Apple Store. The purpose of the app is to help organizations engage and retain employees. According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in San Antonio was priced at $4.19/g yesterday while the most expensive was $4.89/g, a difference of 70.0 cents per gallon. The lowest price in the state yesterday was $3.99/g while the highest was $5.68/g, a difference of $1.69/g. President Joe Biden on Saturday signed the most sweeping gun violence bill in decades, a bipartisan compromise that seemed unimaginable until a recent series of mass shootings. The legislation will toughen background checks for the youngest gun buyers, keep firearms from more domestic violence offenders and help states put in place red flag laws that make it easier for authorities to take weapons from people adjudged to be dangerous. Attention incoming saints! 😇👐There are still spots available for the fourth Lake Day Orientation on Saturday, July 23! Students will be able to meet faculty and advisers, learn more about academic major and career possibilities, learn about Student Support Services as well as an optional campus tour and many more opportunities to prepare for the new school year! The Supreme Court in a 6-3 decision on Friday overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that established the constitutional right to abortion in the U.S. in 1973. The court's controversial but expected ruling gives individual states the power to set their own abortion laws. The decision, most of which was leaked in early May, means that abortion rights will be rolled back in nearly half of the states immediately, with more restrictions likely to follow. A man was found motionless with his face down on the San Antonio River Walk according to the SAPD. The San Antonio Fire Department pulled the body out of the river and he was pronounced dead at the scene. No signs of trauma were seen at the time, according to the Medical Examiner at the scene. SAPD is investigating. It's unclear how the man ended up in the water. No other information has been released at this time.
