The Saints ready both themselves and their field for the start of season.

SAN ANTONIO TX – With opening day right around the corner, the Our Lady of the Lake University Saints baseball team has been preparing both themselves and their home field for the first game on Friday, Jan. 25. The Saints have been in offseason training since early August. When asked what he looks forward to, Sophomore Infielder Ryan Chapa said “I think we all have the mindset that we want to have a better season than last year and get first in conference.”

The Saints have not only been working on their skills on the field and in the weight room, but they have been preparing the field itself for the long season ahead. With a 23 home game streak, the team wants to make sure that all parts of the field can withstand the wear and tear of the game.

“We have to put in a lot of maintenance on the field including replacing the windscreens so that they hold tight the whole season, to replacing the turf on the main pitcher’s mound on the field and the mounds in both bullpens,” Chapa said.

The Saints start their opening day off with a double header against the University of Arts and Science of Oklahoma, first game starting at 1:00 p.m. and the second following just behind with a thirty minute intermission. The Saints will open their season at Missions Baseball Academy, San Antonio.
