SAN ANTONIO — On Saturday, February 23, the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women’s basketball team won (107 – 49) against Jarvis Christian College. The OLLU women’s basketball team’s win secures their title as the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) champions of the regular season, for the sixth time in six years. The OLLU Saints will now prepare for their 10th consecutive conference postseason tournament starting Thursday (Feb. 28) through Saturday (March 2) in Texarkana, Texas.

The OLLU Saints women’s basketball team will travel to participate in the 2019 Raising Cane’s RRAC Women’s Basketball Tournament. There, the top six RRAC women’s basketball teams will compete in a two day tournament in the brand new Lois and Cary Patterson Student Center at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. According to the official Red River Athletic Conference website, the RRAC Women’s Basketball Tournament is a single elimination bracket where seedings are based on regular season conference records. The top two seeds, OLLU being the top of the seed and second-seeded LSU Alexandria, will get a bye into the semifinals. The third-seeded, LSU Shreveport, faces the sixth-seeded, Wiley, and the fourth-seeded, Huston-Tillotson, plays against the fifth, St. Thomas. The semifinals and championship game will follow.

Going into the tournament as a point-guard junior, Kasey Saldana, spoke for the entire team. “We want to win so we can get an automatic bid to the National Tournament, and that’s been our biggest goal all season,” Saldana said.

As the the OLLU women’s basketball team prepares for advancement, the team remains physically and mentally prepared. “[We’re] Keeping our eye on the prize and sticking together as one,” Saldana said. At OLLU, the women’s basketball team strives to “keep the tradition rolling and will continue to motivate [them] next year,” Saldana said.
