By Destiny Camacho and Chloe M. Brown Summer is probably one of the best times for movies in the United States, with so many major studios releasing anticipated films between the months of May and August. Listed below are just a few of the films hitting theaters this summer.

Life of the Party (Comedy)

DC: Imagine your mother going to college with you, attending frat parties and being friends with your friends. That’s exactly what happens in Life of the Party. Melissa McCarthy is exactly what I imagine my mother would be if this was to happen in my life. Movie Summary When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime housewife Deanna (McCarthy) turns regret into a fresh start by going back to college. Landing in the same class and school as her daughter. Plunging headlong into the campus experience. Watch the trailer!
Life of the Party hits theaters May 11th.

Breaking In (Thriller)

DC: Have you ever had that feeling when you’re home alone and you hear a noise that someone is in your house? Well, that’s not entirely what happens in this movie but it’s close enough. This thriller is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat as you witness a mother fighting to save her children from intruders. Her only dilemma, getting back inside. Movie Summary A woman and her children travel to the home that she grew up in after her father dies. She has to go through his things and things take a turn. She must fight to protect her family during a home invasion. Can she make it back inside? Watch the trailer!
Breaking In hits theaters May 11th.

Deadpool 2 (Action/Comedy)

CB: We’ve got a whole new line up… Wait no, it’s just Deadpool. If you’re ready to see Ryan Reynolds looking like a dried up raisin then gear up for another wacky and yet vulgar adventure. Deadpool 2 brings back the classics that we love from the first movie as well as some new characters that Marvel fanatics will both recognize and enjoy. Movie Summary Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the Yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
Deadpool 2 hits theaters May 18th.

Ocean’s 8 (Action/Comedy/Thriller)

CB: Remember how Ghostbusters turned their all male cast into an all female cast and everyone freaked out? Well my friends, it’s time again to see the fanboys freak out about another movie franchise that they never really cared about in the first place. Hey at least we get Rhianna, Anne Hathaway and Sandra Bullock in one movie. I’m excited about that. Movie Summary Debbie Ocean gathers a crew to attempt an impossible heist at New York City’s yearly Met Gala. Watch the trailer!
Ocean’s 8 hits theaters June 8th.

Incredibles 2 (Animation/Action/Family)

DC: One of the most anticipated films included on this list. Incredibles 2! The audience will most likely be packed with 20-something-year-olds who have been waiting to witness the Incredibles face the Underminer since 2004. From my extensive research (I literally just watched the trailer) the movie picks up right where we left the Parr family. Oh, and I forgot to mention that Jack-Jack is going to be using his powers, Violet is having teenage angst, and Frozone’s wife is back. Can someone pass the popcorn while I witness this beautiful moment? Movie Summary Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) is let home to take care of the children as Helen Parr (Elastigirl) starts a new job. Watch the trailer!
Incredibles 2 hits theaters June 15th.

Tag (Comedy)

DC: Do you have a group of friends that you don’t want to lose after you graduate and move on with your life? I know I do and that’s precisely what this movie is all about. Just a group of friends trying to keep in touch as they move on with their lives. Plus Jeremy Renner is the undefeated champion in this movie which just seems appropriate. At least we now know where Hawkeye went during Infinity War. Movie Summary A small group of former classmates organize an elaborate, annual game of tag that requires some to travel all over the country. When the all-time winner decides that he wants to ‘retire’ they hatch the plan to break his streak. Watch the trailer!
Tag hits theaters June 15th.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (Action)

DC: After Infinity War we are given this movie. Will we see the effects of the War ricochet into this movie or does the movie occur as the war drags on? The trailer and IMDb reference Civil War. This could be the major clue that explains when this movie takes place within the MCEU. Movie Summary As Scott Lang balances being both the Ant-Man and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past. Watch the trailer!
Tag hits theaters July 6th.

Skyscraper (Action/Thriller)

CB: Note to self: Never be in a skyscraper with The Rock, becasue it will go down and you are most likely not important enough to be saved. If you are dying for another action movie that could have probably been solved with just a little preplanning, then this is so the movie for you. Movie Summary FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Sawyer, who now assesses security for skyscrapers is on assignment in Hong Kong when he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s being framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building… above the fire line. Watch the trailer!
Skyscraper hits theaters July 13th.

The Spy Who Dumped Me (Action/Comedy)

CB: So I had this dream the other day that I was dating an FBI agent but of course I didn’t know that, and then we went on this crazy adventure where people who want him dead were hunting us both down. I don’t know if that’s a sign or anything, but it reminds me of the trailer for this movie. Movie Summary Audrey and Morgan are best friends who unwittingly become entangled in an international conspiracy when one of the women discovers the boyfriend who dumped her was actually a spy. Watch the trailer!
The Spy Who Dumped Me hits theaters August 3rd.
I hope you enjoy the movies that are on this list and if you have a movie that you’re excited to see that was or wasn’t on this list please tell us in the comments. Have a great summer!
