By: Hope Winningham SAN ANTONIO– Graduation draws ever closer for a lot of the Our Lady of the Lake University scholars , whether they graduate this fall or in the spring. For years, OLLU’s Seniors have been on a long and arduous journey and soon that journey will draw to a close. Although this years seniors will all walk the same stage , the paths they took to get there are all different. Here is this seniors’ story : Tamarea Session has been attending Our Lady of the Lake University for the last 4 years. Born and raised in San Antonio, Session came to OLLU in the Fall of 2015 to pursue her career in Psychology : Pre- Counseling. Majoring in Psychology and minoring in Social Welfare and Social Justice to help families and counsel couples in need of help. This senior has gone above and beyond to show her love and dedication for this campus by her volunteer work and involvement efforts. Tamarea is currently in Kappa Delta Chi sorority, a prestigious volunteer geared organization that can be found on campus. When asked what her most memorable moment was and why, she said “I was able to find a group of people that accepted me for who I am”. Awakening, being an orientation leader, and the L.I.F.E program are some of the other campus organizations she is involved in. Students at Our Lady of the Lake University have various reasons why they chose this school out of all the rest. “The community brought me to OLLU because everyone so nice and caring. Coming from a big school and everybody doing their own thing it was different because majority of people here know each other and genuinely want to help you succeed” Tamarea says . Brenda Guerrero who is a Faculty member at OLLU has impacted this students path in a positive way. “She has always been so understanding and helpful when I needed help. She has always been a helping hand”. This student seeks to make sure that others are thought about and the well being of others is very important to this OLLU scholar. “My goal is cheer up at least one person a day.”  The reason behind this is everybody is going to have good day or bad day but it helps when someone going through something changes their perspective about the whole situation by thinking on the brighter side of things”, she tells Lake Front News. To get away, Tamarea goes for walks in the park and loves to read books. Listening to music and watching television and movies is other hobbies this student loves. Memorizing the different scenes from movies is what makes watching movies for her enjoyable. Her favorite quote is “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour and some style.” “Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.”. This famous quote comes from the well known activist Maya Angelou. Her journey is just getting started and she has plans to come back to this campus to build onto the education she will have completed in the spring. After her bachelor’s is completed she plans to pursue a Masters’ Degree in Marital and Family Therapy.
