Getting Fit & Getting The Grades

By Stefanie Fairweather

SAN ANTONIO—Looking to shed a few pounds? Our Lady of the Lake University offers a multitude of fitness programs free for students, faculty and staff.

These classes range from Aqua Zumba to Bokwa a new type of dance workout. Bokwa is an African-style of dance that incorporates aerobics and hip-hop cardio, it seems to be outshining Zumba.

The University Wellness & Activities Center director Adrienne Rodriguez, is excited about having more of the OLLU community more active on campus. The desire is to have more student-led programs on campus, but until then we have plenty of classes for those who want to get fit.

What many students do not know is that there are fitness classes offered for students interested in becoming active and gaining credits. The Kinesiology department offers one credit fitness courses to students of any major. Courses range from Pilates to Weight Training to Cardio Kickboxing. Interested in boosting your GPA and getting fit at the same time then this is definitely something to look into for the upcoming semester.
