Alumni organizes domestic violence run

SAN ANTONIO TX–Do you know anyone who is a victim of domestic violence? Our Lady of the Lake University Alumni Claudia Duran organized a 10 mile walk in El Paso, Texas to bring awareness. The district alternates office has been organizing a walk for victims for the last 11 years. The goal is to bring families and those who have suffered together. We have about 400 people doing the walk this year, these are people who are victims of crime, people who have lost their loved ones to crime and it is a way to bring the community together and to bring awareness,” Duran said.

Domestic violence in Texas means there has been an assault against a family or household member. According to FindLaw “Penalties range from a ‘Class C’ misdemeanor, which carries a penalty of up one year in jail and a fine to a first degree felony, which carries a penalty of five to 99 years in prison and a fine of no more than $10,000.”
