SAN ANTONIO—While there are many who are still recovering from the tragedy in Las Vegas, disaster strikes again closer to Our Lady of the Lake University in Sutherland Springs, Texas. A gunman opened fire in the First Baptist Church killing at least 26 people and injuring more than 20. The tragedy took place Sunday at around 11:30 a.m.
With the incident being too close for comfort for many, a fear looms over the areas surrounding San Antonio, as Sutherland Springs Texas is about 30 miles away. Students from around the area look to friends and counselors for comfort and OLLU Campus Ministry is also taking steps to help those needing comfort and assistance.
Sister Patti Lohre and OLLU Campus Ministry sent out a prayer request for the victims of the shooting at the church and said that since the event happened recently, the actions taken by Campus Ministry will come in time. Lohres said that the ministry is available for those who would like to talk and are seeking help in this troubling time.
