Common things people give up for lent.
San Antonio- Fish, fish and more fish is all you see after Ash Wednesday through Easter Sunday. During this time Lent is observed by many religious people. People who partake in the celebration of Lent give up one thing from their daily routine for 40 days. For some this can prove to be a challenge, but others showcase a strong willpower that gets them through.
Lent is a Catholic tradition and serves as a time to celebrate and commemorate when Jesus walked the desert for 40 days. This is a time of personal reflection and realizing what is important to each person. Some of the items can seem easy to live without but for others this can be very difficult. We asked some Our Lady of the Lake University students what they gave up this season of Lent and answers included:

We spoke with OLLU’s director of Ministry Creighton Chandler and asked him why people give up things during this time. “Think about what it is in their lives that they have, what they maybe don’t need, who they want to become,” he said.
