Sleighing the Christmas Season

Christmas is quickly approaching. If there is any doubt, just check out the local Walmart. If shopping proves more frightful than joyful, here are a few Christmas events that are sure to put the merry back in your Christmas.

Santa’s Ranch
Location: New Braunfels, Texas
When: November 2 to January 2
Time: 6-10 pm

Santa’s Ranch is open for all of those who love to go out gazing at Christmas lights. They have a drive through park that’s great for family time while enjoying the elaborate light decorations. They have added events like carousel rides, ice skating rinks, and a few other nifty activities. The price is around 28 dollars per car and is open even during holidays.

Zoo Lights Holiday Nights

Location: San Antonio Zoo

When: November 18 to January 1

Time: 6-10pm

San Antonio Zoo is holding this event where patrons can stroll under hundreds of lights, visit Santa, drink hot coco, and check out some of the fun events that they have prepared. The tickets cost around 15 dollars per ticket.

Ford Holiday River Parade
Location: Riverwalk

When: November 25

Time: 5-9 pm

This year is the 35th annual Ford Holiday River Parade.This event has floats that float down the river walk in a fantastic parade to help bring in the holiday season. Pardes include floats with great lighting, costumed float riders, and music.This parade also includes Tickets range anywhere from 15 to 40 dollars.

All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914

Location: The Playhouse- Russel Hills Rogers Theater

When: December 2 to December 18

Time: 8pm or on Sunday 3pm

In 1914, at the Western Front, out of the violence comes a silence, then a song. A German soldier steps into No Man’s Land singing “Stille Nacht.” Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music, and peace. A remarkable true experience told in the words and songs of the men who lived it. Tickets range from 10 to 40 dollars.

Candlelight

Location: Chapel Auditorium

When: December 3

Time: 5:30-9 pm

The night starts out with a dinner in Chapel Auditorium and is actually the only part of the event that cost anything. The dinner is followed by a service in the Sacred Heart Chapel and then sing Christmas carols. The tickets for the dinner only cost 10 dollars, but students can always just go to the free part of the event.

Tamales! Holiday Festival

Location: The Pearl Brewery

When: December 3

Time: 12-6pm

The Holiday festival will incorporate all the fun parts about South Texas during Christmas time. There is music, food, and other fun events for people to participate in. This Festival is free and open to the public. Food and beverage prices range from 1 to 5 dollars per vendor.

La Tamalada At the Witte

Location: Witte

When: December 10

Time:11 am-1 pm

This event talks about the holiday traditions in South Texas about making tamales. During this event patrons will learn how to make their own tamales. Each patron will make half-dozen bean tamales to enjoy for lunch or to take home. For non members it is 25 dollars and for members it is 15 dollars.
