SAN ANTONIO – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team (14-3, 6-1 RRAC) defeated Jarvis Christian College (JCC) on Sept. 27 to celebrate a historic school win. The Saints accomplished a monumental 100th home win with a dominating performance over JCC.
Saints’ volleyball is led by first-year head coach Scott Mattera and his staff of assistant coaches. Mattera expressed being happy with the women’s performance and the huge accomplishment they achieved.
“I am proud of being part of this program and having been a part of what these ladies have done,” said Mattera. “Faz [Fazio] and Riv [Rivera] have been part of a whole lot of those victories, so credit to them and what was built before I got here.”
The two seniors of the team Natalie Fazio and Anyssa Rivera were able to indulge in the historic win before their time at OLLU comes to an end. Fazio a Mass Communication major and Rivera a Political Science major currently have a combined for a total of 1,684.5 points so far in their careers with the Saints’ volleyball team. Fazio reflected on being part of the historic win and celebrating it with fellow senior, Rivera.
“That was fun to be a part of with her because she was here before me, so to see that win with her since it is her senior year too was fun,” said Fazio.
The Saints’ volleyball team wraps up their season on Nov. 1, and then begin their preparation for the Conference Tournament kicking off Nov. 8.
